Global Interest Grows in Pakistan’s Fighter Jets After Ma’arka-e-Haq Success: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that Pakistan’s defence industry is witnessing renewed global interest after the country’s success in Ma’arka-e-Haq, revealing that several countries are engaged in discussions to acquire Pakistani fighter jets.

The prime minister made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad, according to an official statement. He said the growing demand for Pakistan’s fighter aircraft reflects international confidence in the country’s defence capabilities and will contribute positively to the national economy through exports and industrial growth.

During the meeting, the cabinet was also briefed by the Ministry of Finance on the redesign of currency notes being issued by the State Bank of Pakistan. Officials informed the cabinet that the new banknotes are being developed in line with modern international standards, with input from global design experts. A cabinet committee was formed to further review the proposed designs.

Separately, the cabinet decided to refer the draft of the Private Hajj Policy for 2027–2030 to the Hajj Policy Committee for further deliberations. The federal cabinet also ratified decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Energy in its meeting held on December 24, 2025, as well as approvals granted by the Economic Coordination Committee a day earlier.

Addressing broader national priorities, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism, stating that security forces remain fully determined to eradicate the menace. He also highlighted recent economic stabilisation, noting that the government has now shifted its focus toward sustainable growth and development.

The prime minister further welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding with World Liberty Financial, calling it a positive step that could help strengthen Pakistan’s economic outlook.
