Pakistan partners with Meta to launch AI training program for university teachers

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched a new artificial intelligence training initiative for university faculty in partnership with Meta and local ed-tech platform Atomcamp, as the country moves to integrate advanced technologies into higher education.

Under the program, around 300 faculty members affiliated with HEC have already completed specialized training focused on artificial intelligence, data science and analytics, according to officials familiar with the initiative.

The training is being delivered by Atomcamp, while Meta is supporting the initiative through technical collaboration. HEC is coordinating participation from public sector universities across the country.

Officials say the program aims to align teaching standards with emerging global technology trends and strengthen the capacity of academic staff to deliver AI-related coursework and research.

The initiative comes as Pakistan expands the use of artificial intelligence across education, industry and government, with growing interest in AI-driven solutions for healthcare, finance, public services and digital infrastructure.

According to state media, the government plans to introduce additional programs focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to bring Pakistani universities closer to international standards.

Pakistan unveiled its first National Artificial Intelligence Policy last year, outlining plans to develop AI infrastructure, expand skills training and promote responsible and ethical use of the technology through international partnerships.
