Turkey seeks deeper energy, defense ties with Saudi Arabia, Erdogan says

RIYADH: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Türkiye wants to elevate cooperation with Saudi Arabia across renewable energy, defense manufacturing and key economic sectors, as he held talks with Saudi leadership in Riyadh.

Erdogan arrived in the Saudi capital earlier on Monday and was received at King Khalid International Airport before proceeding to Al-Yamamah Palace, where he was welcomed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to regional media reports.

The two leaders held formal discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, and exploring new areas of cooperation, including defense industries and clean energy projects.

They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, with Erdogan reaffirming Türkiye’s support for stability in Syria and expressing Ankara’s readiness to work with Saudi Arabia on reconstruction efforts.

Erdogan said Türkiye remains committed to humanitarian support for Gaza and stressed the need for further international action to address the ongoing crisis.

The talks also covered developments in Yemen and recent events in East Africa, officials said.

The visit underscores growing engagement between Turkey and Saudi Arabia as both sides seek to deepen strategic and economic ties.
