PCB tells ICC Pakistan will skip India match at T20 World Cup

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board has formally notified the International Cricket Council that Pakistan will not play India in their scheduled Feb 15 fixture at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, officials said on Saturday.

Sources told reporters that the ICC contacted the Pakistan Cricket Board following Pakistan’s announcement, seeking clarification on the decision. The PCB has since submitted its response, with officials saying the global body will disclose further details.

According to officials familiar with the matter, the ICC has also approached other cricket boards in an effort to resolve the situation.

Pakistan has confirmed it will continue participating in the tournament but will not face India, citing concerns over what it described as inconsistent standards applied by the ICC, particularly in recent decisions affecting Bangladesh.

Government sources said Islamabad’s stance reflects solidarity with Bangladesh after the ICC removed the team from the competition, a move Pakistan viewed as unfair.

Sri Lanka Cricket has meanwhile urged the PCB to reconsider the boycott, warning that the decision has already impacted Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, with reports of hotel booking cancellations following Pakistan’s announcement.

The ICC has not yet issued an official public statement on the PCB’s response.
