India leads world in doping violations for third consecutive year

India has once again reported the highest number of anti-doping rule violations worldwide, continuing a trend that has now extended into a third consecutive year, according to figures published by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The data reflects ongoing structural challenges within India’s sports ecosystem, including gaps in athlete education, limited preventive awareness programs, and uneven enforcement across domestic competitions. Sports governance analysts note that power-based and endurance sports account for a significant share of recorded violations.

WADA officials have repeatedly stressed that high violation numbers may also point to weaknesses in national testing frameworks and compliance systems, rather than drug use alone. Experts argue that sustained improvement will require stronger institutional oversight, wider testing coverage, and consistent athlete outreach at both elite and grassroots levels.

Indian sports authorities have previously acknowledged the issue and announced corrective measures, including stricter monitoring and expanded testing. However, analysts caution that long-term progress will depend on effective implementation and transparency rather than policy commitments alone.
