Arif Habib Consortium Wins 75% Stake in PIA with Rs135bn Bid; Federal Govt Retains 25%

The Arif Habib Consortium has won the majority stake in Pakistan International Airlines, securing 75% ownership with a winning bid of Rs135 billion, according to the officially concluded bidding process.

The Federal Government of Pakistan will retain the remaining 25% shareholding, ensuring continued strategic oversight following the airline’s privatisation.

The bidding process saw strong competition, with the Lucky Consortium submitting a close Rs134 billion offer, underlining robust investor interest in the national carrier.

Officials say the transaction marks a key milestone in Pakistan’s privatisation drive, aimed at improving operational efficiency, reducing fiscal pressure, and positioning PIA for long-term commercial sustainability. The successful bidder is expected to lead restructuring efforts while the government maintains a minority stake to safeguard national interests.

The privatisation process was conducted under transparent procedures, with authorities stating that further details regarding transition and operational plans will be announced in due course.
