Islamabad: Pakistan and Bangladesh have discussed launching a direct ferry service and shipping link aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and tourism cooperation, officials said.
The proposal came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Bangladesh High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan in Islamabad.
According to an official statement, both sides reviewed options to improve maritime connectivity and economic engagement between the two countries.
The minister said a ferry service could facilitate passenger movement and cargo transport while encouraging tourism exchanges. He added that establishing a direct shipping route would also help expand bilateral trade volumes.
Officials stated that both countries expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in maritime sectors and increasing economic interaction.
Pakistan and Bangladesh have recently taken steps to improve diplomatic engagement, including the resumption of direct flights after a long gap.
Authorities said improving transport links is expected to support commercial ties and people-to-people contact in the coming years.
