Pakistan in Contact With US, Expects Early Resumption of Immigrant Visa Processing

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has confirmed it is in active contact with United States authorities regarding immigrant visa processing and expects normal online services to resume in the near future, the Foreign Office said on Thursday.

Speaking during the weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan remains engaged with relevant US authorities and described the suspension as part of an internal review process within the US immigration system.

“Pakistan is in contact with US authorities regarding immigrant visas, and we expect that regular online processing will resume soon,” the spokesperson stated.

Addressing regional developments, Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Iran and supports all efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution. He reiterated that Iran is a neighboring country and an important member of the international community, adding that Pakistan wishes to see a peaceful, stable and prosperous Iran.

He noted that recent unrest in Iran has stemmed from economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens and expressed hope that relief measures announced by Iranian authorities would help ease public hardship. “Iran is a resilient nation, and Pakistan has full confidence in the wisdom of the Iranian people and leadership to overcome these challenges,” he said.

On the safety of Pakistani nationals, the Foreign Office confirmed that the Pakistan Embassy in Tehran remains fully active to assist citizens. Pakistani nationals have been advised to exercise caution and follow existing travel advisories.

Regarding the suspension of immigrant visas, the spokesperson clarified that the issue does not reflect any shift in bilateral relations. Pakistan views the matter as part of the United States’ internal immigration policy review process, he added.
