Saudi Arabia backs dialogue to ease US-Iran tensions, rejects military escalation

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its support for a peaceful resolution of tensions between the United States and Iran, stressing dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred path forward, a senior Saudi official said on Sunday.

The official dismissed media reports suggesting Riyadh had urged Washington to take military action against Tehran, calling such claims inaccurate.

Speaking to Saudi-owned daily Asharq Al-Awsat, the official said the Kingdom’s position on regional stability remains unchanged, emphasizing diplomatic engagement as the only sustainable solution.

Saudi Arabia also reiterated it would not allow its airspace or territory to be used for any military operation against Iran.

According to the official, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman recently held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during which he reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s respect for Iran’s sovereignty and support for efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.

The statement comes amid heightened concerns over security in the Middle East, with Riyadh calling on all parties to prioritize dialogue and avoid steps that could further destabilize the region.
