ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman following his party’s success in Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Friday.
During the call, the prime minister congratulated Rahman on the electoral outcome and extended greetings to the people of Bangladesh on the conduct of the polls.
According to the official statement, both leaders discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional peace, economic cooperation and people-to-people engagement.
The prime minister acknowledged the contributions of former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia toward relations between the two countries.
They agreed to remain in contact and explore avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest and public welfare.
Sharif also invited Rahman to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient date.
Bangladesh’s Election Commission earlier announced the results of parliamentary elections held across 299 constituencies, where the BNP secured a clear majority.
