UK refuses US request to use bases for potential action against Iran

LONDON: The United Kingdom has declined a United States request to use British military bases for any potential military action against Iran, according to media reports citing government sources.

British officials said permission would not be granted for US forces to operate from UK-controlled facilities in the absence of a clear legal mandate under international law.

The position reflects London’s concern that participation in a strike without internationally recognized justification could breach legal obligations.

The development has reportedly created friction between Washington and London as discussions continue over possible responses to regional security threats.

US President Donald Trump said American forces may require access to facilities such as Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford if action is deemed necessary to counter what he described as potential threats from Iran.

No official announcement has been made regarding any planned military operation, and both governments have not confirmed further operational details.
