WASHINGTON: The United States military has confirmed that the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships have arrived in the Middle East, strengthening Washington’s military posture in the region.
In a statement posted on X, US Central Command said the carrier strike group is deployed to support regional security and stability.
The deployment comes at a time of elevated tensions between Washington and Tehran, following Iran’s recent domestic unrest and a subsequent crackdown on protests.
Although US President Donald Trump recently stepped back from immediate military action against Iran, he said all options remain under consideration.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei warned against outside interference, saying Tehran remained confident in its defensive capabilities. Referring to the carrier deployment, he said such moves would not weaken Iran’s resolve or its commitment to national defence.
The USS Abraham Lincoln strike group includes guided-missile destroyers and support vessels, providing air, sea and surveillance capabilities across key maritime routes in the region.
US officials said the deployment aims to deter escalation and reassure partners, while maintaining readiness amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
