Türkiye Confirms Talks to Join Pakistan–Saudi Defence Alliance

ISTANBUL: Türkiye is holding discussions with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on the possibility of joining a defence cooperation framework between the two countries, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters in Istanbul, Fidan clarified that consultations are underway but stressed that no formal agreement has been finalised so far. He said the talks reflect Ankara’s broader regional security outlook and its interest in multilateral cooperation platforms.

The foreign minister noted that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan envisions a wider, more inclusive regional framework aimed at long-term stability and strategic coordination.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a bilateral defence cooperation arrangement in September, focusing on joint training, defence collaboration and security coordination. The agreement followed heightened regional tensions earlier this year, during which Saudi Arabia played a diplomatic role in de-escalation efforts.

Officials familiar with the discussions say Türkiye’s engagement signals growing interest among key regional players in structured defence partnerships amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
