ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has announced plans to revive Pakistan Steel Mills, with Russia and several other international partners showing interest in the long-stalled industrial asset, a senior government official said on Tuesday.
Haroon Akhtar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, said during a media briefing in Islamabad that the government was actively working on restoring operations at the steel mill as part of a wider strategy to strengthen the manufacturing sector.
He said interest in the project was not limited to Russia, adding that at least four different international parties had shown willingness to engage in discussions related to the revival.
Akhtar said the government was also preparing to introduce a New Energy Vehicle (NEV) policy in the near future, alongside separate initiatives related to vaccines and solar energy.
He added that authorities were focusing on expanding domestic manufacturing capacity and were considering steps to promote the local production of home appliances as part of broader industrial development efforts.
The steel mill revival is being positioned as a key component of Pakistan’s push to reactivate idle state-owned enterprises and attract foreign participation in priority industrial sectors.
