Pakistani taxi drivers praised as Dubai releases 2025 lost and found data

DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has released its lost and found statistics for 2025, reporting the recovery of more than AED 2 million in cash, tens of thousands of electronic devices, and thousands of official documents from taxis operating across the emirate.

According to the RTA, more than 104,000 lost property reports were processed during the year through its centralised Lost and Found system, operated by the authority’s Call Centre in coordination with licensed taxi companies and drivers.

The authority said recovered items included over AED 2 million in cash, approximately 35,000 electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops and tablets, as well as nearly 3,000 passports and official documents. Jewellery and other valuable personal belongings were also among the items returned to owners.

RTA officials said the recovery process relies on trip verification, vehicle tracking and direct coordination with taxi drivers. In most cases, items were traced and owners contacted within two hours of a report being filed.

Officials highlighted the role of taxi drivers in ensuring the success of the system, noting that many drivers promptly hand over lost belongings after passengers leave their vehicles.

Pakistani taxi drivers, who form a significant portion of Dubai’s taxi workforce, were among those acknowledged for their cooperation and professionalism in returning lost items. Authorities said the strong participation of drivers from different nationalities has helped build trust in the city’s public transport services.

The RTA’s Call Centre provides assistance in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Filipino, French, Chinese and Russian, reflecting Dubai’s diverse population and workforce.

The authority said the figures underline Dubai’s emphasis on service integrity and passenger confidence, with taxi drivers playing a key role in safeguarding lost property across the city.
