PCB backs Bangladesh, rejects ICC double standards over T20 World Cup venue

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday voiced support for Bangladesh’s position on the ICC T20 World Cup, saying the stance was based on principle and accusing the International Cricket Council of applying double standards.

Speaking during a meeting with national team players in Lahore, Naqvi briefed the squad on PCB’s position regarding the tournament and said Pakistan had backed Bangladesh after reviewing the matter under cricket’s core principles.

“Bangladesh’s decision not to play matches in India is based on legitimate concerns. PCB rejects ICC’s double standards and supports Bangladesh on principle,” Naqvi said.

He added that Pakistan would fully follow whatever decision is taken by the federal government regarding participation in the T20 World Cup.

Naqvi said politicising cricket benefits no one and urged all stakeholders to adhere to sporting values. He also praised Pakistan’s players, describing them as competitive and capable, and said team unity would be key to success.

Players present at the meeting expressed support for PCB’s position.

Naqvi also extended best wishes to the national side ahead of the upcoming T20 series against Australia, saying cricket fans were expecting strong performances from the team.
