US envoy inaugurates KFC in Nowshera, backs jobs and deaf aid

NOWSHERA: US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker visited Nowshera in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week to highlight the role of American businesses in supporting local communities and strengthening economic cooperation between Pakistan and the United States.

During the visit, Baker inaugurated a newly opened KFC restaurant and toured a KFC-supported Deaf Reach school, underscoring corporate social responsibility efforts linked to education and employment.

According to a statement from the US Embassy, the initiative aims to expand economic opportunity by creating local jobs while supporting skills development for young people with hearing impairments.

The embassy said KFC has worked since 2014 to provide education, vocational training and employment pathways for Pakistan’s deaf community through partnerships with Deaf Reach Schools, operated by the Family Education Services Foundation.

Speaking at the opening, Baker said the project demonstrated how international brands, in collaboration with Pakistani partners, can contribute directly to community development and economic growth.

She added that more than 80 US companies currently operate in Pakistan, directly employing about 120,000 people and indirectly supporting around one million livelihoods.

Baker’s visit also highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral trade and investment ties, with officials saying stronger economic cooperation could help unlock growth potential across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
