Pakistan, Norway move closer to restoring direct PIA flights

OSLO: Pakistan and Norway have taken a step forward toward restoring direct Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights, following discussions between senior officials focused on improving air connectivity for the Pakistani community in Norway.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Norway, Saadia Altaf Qazi, met PIA Chief Executive Officer AVM Muhammad Amir Hayat to review prospects for resuming nonstop services between the two countries, according to officials familiar with the meeting.

Both sides described the restoration of direct flights as a priority, citing long-standing demand from Pakistani residents in Norway and the need for smoother travel links between Islamabad and Oslo.

Officials said the talks covered operational feasibility, passenger demand and coordination between aviation authorities. The embassy highlighted that direct connectivity would support family travel, trade links and people-to-people exchanges.

No timeline has been announced, but officials said engagement will continue with relevant stakeholders to move the process forward.

Pakistan and Norway currently rely on connecting flights through third countries, a situation that community representatives have long urged both governments to address.
