Nasir Hussain questions ICC stance, warns pressure on Pakistan, Bangladesh could harm cricket

LONDON: Former England captain Nasir Hussain has questioned the International Cricket Council’s approach to recent venue and participation disputes, warning that pressuring Pakistan and Bangladesh could have long-term consequences for the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hussain said it was unclear whether the ICC would have taken similar action had India requested a venue change.

“If India had asked for a shift, would the ICC have dared to exclude them?” he said, adding that all member nations should be treated equally.

Hussain noted that Bangladesh had stood firm on its position and said Pakistan’s decision to support Bangladesh reflected solidarity between boards.

He also criticised the growing role of politics in cricket, pointing to recent incidents involving match arrangements and ceremonial gestures.

“There has to be a moment when someone stands up and says enough politics, let’s play cricket,” Hussain said.

He warned that continued pressure on Pakistan and Bangladesh could undermine the sport, adding that Pakistan’s performances despite long-standing challenges showed resilience.

The comments come amid wider debate over scheduling, venue decisions and the ICC’s handling of disputes involving South Asian teams.
