Gaza Board of Peace to hold first meeting in US on Feb 19 hosted by Trump

WASHINGTON: The Gaza Board of Peace is set to hold its inaugural meeting on February 19 in the United States, according to reports in American media, with President Donald Trump scheduled to host the gathering.

Invitations have already been issued to board members and representatives of the Gaza Executive Committee, officials familiar with the matter said. The meeting is expected to take place in Washington at the U.S. Institute of Peace.

The Gaza Board of Peace comprises representatives from 25 countries. President Trump serves as the board’s chairman, the reports added.

Several European countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Norway, have declined to join the initiative, viewing it as a parallel framework that challenges the role of the United Nations in conflict resolution.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had initially expressed reservations, later indicated readiness to engage with the board, according to earlier statements carried by international media.

The official agenda for the meeting has not been released. However, U.S. media reports suggest the board is linked to the second phase of a Gaza-related proposal promoted by President Trump, which includes post-conflict reconstruction and the demilitarisation of Hamas.
