RIYADH: Pakistan has unveiled a new dual-role hypersonic missile, named SMASH, at the World Defense Show currently underway in Riyadh, according to information released at the exhibition.
The missile was presented by Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS), Pakistan’s state-owned defense exporter, during the international defense event that has drawn military officials, defense companies, and delegations from multiple countries.
According to technical details shared by the manufacturer, SMASH has been designed for both anti-ship and land-attack missions, allowing a single missile platform to be employed across different operational requirements.
In its anti-ship configuration, the missile is reported to have a range of up to 290 kilometers and is equipped with a 384-kilogram warhead. Guidance for this variant includes an HD-GNSS-assisted inertial navigation system combined with an active radar seeker.
For land-attack missions, the missile retains the same stated range of 290 kilometers, while the warhead weight is increased to up to 444 kilograms. This version relies on HD-GNSS-assisted inertial navigation for targeting.
The missile uses a single-stage, dual-thrust solid rocket motor. According to the manufacturer, the system is designed to achieve high accuracy, with a reported circular error probability of up to 10 meters in the maritime role and up to 15 meters in the land-attack configuration.
GIDS has stated that the missile is capable of reaching terminal speeds exceeding Mach 2, with a flight profile intended to challenge modern air and missile defense systems.
Officials said the dual-role design is aimed at simplifying logistics and reducing operational costs by enabling the same missile system to be deployed across naval and land-based missions.
The World Defense Show in Riyadh has served as a platform for Pakistan to showcase indigenous defense technologies as part of broader efforts to expand defense exports and international partnerships.
