LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said discussions held with the International Cricket Council (ICC) were focused on addressing concerns raised by Bangladesh and restoring what he described as fairness in the process.
Speaking about the negotiations, Naqvi said Pakistan did not place any conditions of its own during the talks and had no personal or institutional agenda.
“Our objective was limited to highlighting what we believed were issues faced by Bangladesh and ensuring that their concerns were addressed,” he said.
The remarks followed high-level discussions held in Lahore earlier this week involving representatives of the International Cricket Council, the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
According to officials familiar with the meeting, the talks were attended by ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja and Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam.
Following the discussions, the ICC announced that Bangladesh would not face any penalties for non-participation related to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The governing body also confirmed that Bangladesh would be awarded hosting rights for a future ICC event between 2028 and 2031.
Subsequently, officials said that requests were conveyed to Pakistan from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, urging Islamabad to proceed with its scheduled match against India in the tournament.
The Government of Pakistan later approved the national team’s participation in the fixture, bringing the matter to a close.
