Pakistan explores defence cooperation with Bangladesh, JF-17 jets among options

Pakistan has begun exploring broader defence cooperation with Bangladesh as both countries look to deepen military and strategic engagement, officials familiar with the matter said.

According to defence and diplomatic sources, discussions remain at an exploratory stage, but potential areas of cooperation include training, defence technology exchange, and possible interest in Pakistan-built military platforms. The JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, jointly developed by Pakistan and China, is understood to be among the options that could be discussed if talks progress.

Officials stressed that no formal agreement has been signed so far, and negotiations are ongoing. Any potential defence arrangement would be subject to bilateral approvals and long-term strategic assessments by both sides.

Pakistan has previously supplied defence equipment and training support to several friendly countries, while Bangladesh continues to modernise its armed forces under long-term development plans.

Sources said the talks reflect a gradual strengthening of Pakistan–Bangladesh relations, driven by shared regional interests and defence collaboration prospects.
