BEIJING: China has reaffirmed its support for Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, while opposing threats of force and economic pressure against Tehran.
China’s Vice Foreign Minister Liu Bin made the remarks during talks in Beijing with Iran’s deputy foreign minister, according to international media reports.
Liu said Beijing supports Iran in exercising its legitimate right to peaceful nuclear development and reiterated China’s opposition to military threats and sanctions aimed at pressuring Tehran.
He added that China remains committed to promoting a diplomatic and balanced resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue.
Chinese officials also stressed their continued efforts to facilitate negotiations and reduce regional tensions, calling for restraint from all sides.
Iranian representatives welcomed China’s stance and said Tehran remains open to constructive engagement, provided talks are conducted on the basis of mutual respect.
The meeting comes amid renewed international focus on Iran’s nuclear programme and broader regional stability.
