Loralai olive oil wins silver at New York international competition

ISLAMABAD: Extra virgin olive oil produced in Loralai district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province has won a Silver Award at the New York International Olive Oil Competition, marking a milestone for the country’s emerging olive sector.

Officials said the award recognised the quality of Pakistani olive oil, produced from locally grown olives and processed under international standards.

Agriculture authorities noted that olive cultivation in Balochistan has expanded in recent years, supported by plantation programmes and small-scale processing facilities aimed at improving rural incomes.

Local growers in Loralai said the recognition reflects improved farming practices and investment in modern extraction techniques, helping Pakistan enter premium export markets.

The provincial agriculture department said olive farming is creating new livelihood opportunities for farmers while strengthening Pakistan’s agricultural exports, particularly in value-added products.

Pakistan has been promoting olive cultivation across arid regions, including Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as part of efforts to diversify crops and reduce reliance on traditional commodities.
