NADRA launches national bug bounty with HEC to boost cyber security

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched its first nationwide Bug Bounty Challenge 2026 in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PakCERT), aiming to strengthen the security of the country’s digital identity systems.

The initiative invites students, ethical hackers and cybersecurity professionals to identify system vulnerabilities through responsible disclosure.

According to NADRA officials, the programme will run in team format and include regional rounds starting January 27 at GIKI Swabi, NUST Islamabad, UET Lahore, NED University Karachi and BUITEMS Quetta.

The final round will be held at NADRA headquarters in Islamabad, with the date to be announced.

Officials said the challenge is designed to build local cybersecurity talent while improving resilience against emerging digital threats. Participants will receive hands-on exposure to real-world security testing under supervised conditions.

NADRA said the project reflects Pakistan’s growing focus on protecting sensitive citizen data as digital services expand nationwide.

HEC representatives said the collaboration will help bridge academia and industry by giving students practical cybersecurity experience.
