Army Chief Asim Munir meets global leaders at Munich Security Conference

MUNICH: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Germany to attend the 62nd Munich Security Conference, where he met senior political and military leaders from several countries, the military’s media wing said.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the three-day visit took place from February 12 to 14 and included discussions on global and regional security developments as well as bilateral cooperation.

During the conference, the army chief held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Both sides discussed matters of mutual interest, including counter-terrorism cooperation and broader security issues.

He also met Germany’s interior minister and held consultations with the German chancellor’s adviser on foreign and security affairs. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral security collaboration.

Separate meetings were held with Chief of the German Armed Forces General Carsten Breuer, where defense cooperation was reviewed.

The army chief additionally met Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, head of the Brazilian Armed Forces Joint Staff, and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Rodolphe Haykal. Talks covered regional stability and prospects for expanding military cooperation.

ISPR said the engagements aimed at promoting mutual understanding and strengthening professional military ties with partner countries.
