Pakistan has reiterated its firm support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, underlining its opposition to actions that could undermine regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
In a statement, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan stands clearly with Somalia and views recent developments, including the Israeli foreign minister’s visit to Somaliland, with concern. He emphasised that Pakistan supports internationally recognised borders and respects the principles of sovereignty and non-interference.
Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, is not internationally recognised as a sovereign state. Pakistan, in line with the United Nations and the majority of the international community, continues to recognise Somalia as a single, unified country.
Islamabad’s position reflects its broader foreign policy approach of supporting territorial integrity, peaceful dispute resolution, and adherence to international law, particularly in regions facing political fragility and security challenges.
