DAVOS: Pakistan on Thursday formally joined the Gaza Board of Peace after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the charter during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, following its official announcement by US President Donald Trump.
The signing ceremony marked the formal activation of the board, which aims to support efforts toward ending hostilities in Gaza and promoting long-term regional stability. Leaders from several countries attended the event and endorsed the charter.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Trump said the initiative would work in coordination with international partners, including the United Nations, to advance peace efforts in the Middle East. He thanked participating countries for joining the board and said more states had expressed interest in becoming members.
Trump said the board would focus on post-conflict stabilization and political engagement, adding that former British prime minister Tony Blair would play an important role in the initiative’s work.
Pakistan’s participation was confirmed by officials present at the ceremony, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the charter on behalf of the country. The signing followed earlier diplomatic engagements between Islamabad and Washington regarding the initiative.
According to officials familiar with the matter, at least 19 countries have so far joined the Gaza Board of Peace, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates.
The board is expected to hold further consultations with international stakeholders in the coming weeks to define its operational framework and next steps.
