Pakistan launches first AI-powered Safe & Smart Railway Station in Rawalpindi

Pakistan has taken a major step toward modernising its railway infrastructure with the launch of the country’s first AI-powered Safe & Smart Railway Station at Rawalpindi Railway Station.

The facility was officially inaugurated by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, who said the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving passenger safety through technology-driven solutions.

The upgraded station is equipped with AI-based monitoring systems, 184 high-definition surveillance cameras, and an integrated control setup designed to enable real-time oversight. Officials said the system will help identify suspicious activity, manage crowds more efficiently, and improve emergency response capabilities.

Authorities added that the Rawalpindi station will serve as a pilot model, with similar Safe & Smart upgrades planned for other major railway stations across Pakistan as part of a broader digital transformation initiative within Pakistan Railways.
