Pakistan president meets UAE leader to boost trade, investment ties

ABU DHABI: President Asif Ali Zardari met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday as both sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and explored fresh opportunities in trade, investment, energy and infrastructure.

Zardari arrived in Abu Dhabi on a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening economic and strategic engagement between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

According to a statement from the President’s Secretariat, the two leaders discussed expanding collaboration across multiple sectors, including technology and people-to-people exchanges, while reaffirming their commitment to regional peace and stability.

Zardari welcomed Sheikh Mohamed’s recent visit to Pakistan and thanked the UAE for its continued support in advancing bilateral ties.

Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments.

The meeting was attended by First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE.

Earlier, Zardari held talks with AD Ports Group CEO Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, where discussions focused on port modernization and logistics investment in Karachi. Officials said improved port infrastructure would help boost trade flows and support Pakistan’s broader economic development.

The UAE remains Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner and hosts over 1.5 million Pakistani expatriates, whose remittances form a key source of foreign exchange. Both countries also maintain growing cooperation in defense, security and maritime sectors.
