ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said it carried out targeted operations against seven militant sites across the border in Afghanistan after a series of recent attacks inside the country, according to an official statement.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said intelligence findings linked the recent suicide bombings and assaults in Islamabad, Bajaur and Bannu to militant leadership and facilitators operating from Afghan territory.
Authorities said the strikes were conducted on the basis of verified intelligence and aimed at locations used by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and associated groups.
The statement added that Pakistan had repeatedly urged the Afghan interim administration to prevent its territory from being used by armed groups against Pakistan, but effective action had not materialised.
Officials said the operation was undertaken as a defensive measure to protect civilians and security personnel following the rise in cross-border militant activity.
Pakistan reiterated that it seeks stability in the region but considers public safety its foremost priority. The government also called on Afghan authorities to fulfill international commitments and prevent militant organisations from operating on its soil.
The statement urged the international community to encourage compliance with obligations related to counter-terrorism cooperation in the region.
