Pakistan, U.S. Agree to Strengthen Security and Border Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States have agreed to enhance cooperation on security and border management following a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a high-level U.S. delegation, officials said.

The U.S. delegation was led by Acting Ambassador Natalie Baker. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral engagement and expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest, according to officials familiar with the meeting.

Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation under the Antiterrorist Assistance Program and the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and agreed to further reinforce these frameworks.

Mohsin Naqvi said advanced software would be introduced to help identify individuals involved in crimes abroad. Training programs for officers of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Federal Constabulary and cybercrime units were also discussed.

Officials said proposals related to establishing a transformation crime center and a training academy within the FIA, with U.S. support, were reviewed during the meeting.

The talks also covered plans to equip border security agencies, coastal guards and other institutions with modern equipment. Naqvi said the use of modern technology would enhance operational capacity and coordination.

The interior minister welcomed U.S. assistance in reorganizing the Federal Constabulary and strengthening the capabilities of the FIA and the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA). He said cooperation in activating FIA’s counter-terrorism wing would improve coordination between federal and provincial authorities.

Naqvi noted that the NCCIA is conducting operations against illegal call centers and said advanced technological support is essential to counter financial fraud and terror financing.

The U.S. delegation acknowledged existing cooperation with Pakistan’s interior ministry and reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen the partnership.

Senior Pakistani officials, including representatives from the FIA, Federal Constabulary, NCCIA and Islamabad Police, were also present.
