Pentagon Assessment Renews Focus on Possible J-35 Stealth Fighter Deliveries to Pakistan

A recent Pentagon report assessing China’s expanding military capabilities has renewed attention on reports linking Pakistan to the future acquisition of China’s J-35 fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft.

The J-35, developed by China’s Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, is designed as a low-observable, multi-role stealth fighter intended to enhance air superiority and advanced combat operations. Defence analysts have previously suggested that Pakistan could be among the potential export customers for the platform as part of deepening China–Pakistan defence cooperation.

Some media and analyst reports have speculated that Pakistan may eventually receive up to 40 J-35 aircraft, with discussions also circulating about a possible acceleration in delivery timelines. However, neither Pakistan nor China has officially confirmed any deal, delivery schedule, or aircraft numbers.

Importantly, the Pentagon has not issued any formal statement confirming accelerated deliveries or a finalized transfer to Pakistan. The references remain based on assessments, external reporting, and strategic analysis rather than official announcements.

Defence experts note that if Pakistan were to induct a fifth-generation stealth fighter in the future, it would represent a significant enhancement of the Pakistan Air Force’s capabilities and could have broader implications for regional air power dynamics. Until official disclosures are made, the matter continues to be closely monitored by defence observers.
