Pakistan PM warns India of firm response

MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday warned that Pakistan would respond decisively to any provocation by India, saying Islamabad remains committed to defending its sovereignty and supporting the Kashmiri people.

Addressing a special session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Kashmir Solidarity Day, the prime minister said Pakistan stood shoulder to shoulder with Kashmiris in their struggle for self-determination.

He said India’s actions had failed to weaken Kashmiri resolve, adding that Pakistan would continue to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums in line with United Nations resolutions.

Sharif said Pakistan sought peace in the region but stressed that lasting stability could only be achieved on the basis of equality and justice. He added that any hostile move would receive an appropriate response.

The prime minister paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the Kashmir cause and said their sacrifices would not go in vain.

He also said Pakistan remained firm on its principled positions regarding Kashmir and Palestine, reiterating Islamabad’s call for peaceful resolutions to both issues.
