Pakistan–Canada Bilateral Trade Crosses $1 Billion Milestone

KARACHI: Pakistan and Canada have crossed a key economic milestone as annual bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded $1 billion, highlighting steady growth in commercial engagement, according to an official statement.

The milestone was marked at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), where representatives from the Canada Pakistan Business Council (CPBC) took part in a ceremonial market opening alongside PSX officials and members of the financial and corporate sectors.

Speakers at the event said the expansion in trade reflects improving market confidence and broader institutional engagement between Pakistan’s capital markets and the Canadian business community.

Officials noted that bilateral trade has expanded significantly over the past decade, supported by growth in agrifood exchanges, education partnerships and the increasing presence of Canadian consumer brands in Pakistan.

In the agrifood sector, the resolution of regulatory issues enabled the import of large consignments of Canadian canola through Karachi port, following coordination between authorities in both countries.

Education cooperation has also expanded, with academic institutions from Pakistan and Canada entering partnerships focused on research and innovation.

Canadian brands have continued to expand operations in Pakistan, while business councils on both sides remain engaged in facilitating trade, investment flows and private-sector collaboration.
