Putin condemns Islamabad blast, sends condolences to Pakistan leadership

ISLAMABAD: Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly condemned the recent deadly blast in Islamabad, calling the attack “barbaric” and extending condolences to Pakistan’s leadership and the families of victims.

In separate messages addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Putin expressed sorrow over the loss of civilian lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

According to Pakistani officials, the Russian leader reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Islamabad in counterterrorism efforts and combating extremist violence.

The explosion occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque in Islamabad’s suburban area of Tarlai, leaving dozens dead and more than a hundred injured, authorities said.

Security agencies stated that investigations are under way to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack, while emergency services continue support operations for affected families.

Pakistan has seen a rise in militant incidents in recent months, prompting renewed calls for international cooperation to address regional security challenges.

Government officials welcomed Russia’s message of solidarity, saying Islamabad remains engaged with global partners to enhance counterterror coordination and stability.
