BNP leader Tarique Rahman meets Jamaat chief after election victory in Dhaka

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Tarique Rahman met Jamaat-e-Islami chief Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at his residence after his party secured a majority in the parliamentary elections.

According to a statement released after the meeting, both leaders discussed the political situation following the polls and the need for stability in the country.

Shafiqur Rahman congratulated the BNP leadership on its electoral performance and expressed hope that the incoming government would prioritise law and order and ensure safety for all citizens.

He said measures were needed to prevent post-election violence and protect political workers and minority communities.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader added that his party would cooperate with the government on matters of national interest while continuing its role as a constitutional opposition.

Official election results showed the BNP winning a clear majority in the 299-seat parliament, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest political force. A student-backed party secured a small number of seats.
