Bangladesh interim leader Muhammad Yunus resigns ahead of new government formation

DHAKA: Bangladesh’s interim administration leader Muhammad Yunus has stepped down from his position as preparations begin for the transfer of authority to the incoming government, officials said.

The resignation comes after completion of the caretaker administration’s transitional responsibilities following national political arrangements in the country. The interim setup had been tasked with overseeing governance during the period leading to formation of a new administration.

Officials in Dhaka said the handover process will take place in accordance with constitutional procedures once the new government formally assumes office.

The interim administration had managed routine state affairs, coordination between institutions and administrative continuity during the transition phase.

Authorities indicated that government offices will now shift operational control to the incoming leadership after formal notification and oath-taking procedures.
