ISLAMABAD: China’s commercial space company Geespace has entered a cooperation agreement with Pakistan’s satellite operator Paksat International to help deploy satellite-based connectivity services across Pakistan, with a focus on underserved and remote areas.
The partnership aims to support digital expansion in regions where traditional telecom networks remain limited due to terrain and high infrastructure costs. Officials said satellite services could provide a faster alternative for improving coverage and strengthening communication resilience.
According to statements released by both companies, the collaboration will centre on low-Earth-orbit satellite internet-of-things services, including regulatory coordination, technical integration and market development.
Under the agreement, Paksat will assist with spectrum planning, policy engagement and compliance requirements for commercial satellite operations, while both sides will explore joint efforts in service rollout and network integration.
Geespace said the initiative is designed to deliver reliable connectivity for industrial applications and cross-regional communications, helping close coverage gaps in hard-to-reach locations.
The Chinese firm, a subsidiary of Geely Holding, is building a low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation and currently operates dozens of satellites. It has conducted commercial trials in more than 20 countries.
Paksat, Pakistan’s national satellite services provider, supplies capacity to broadcasters, telecom operators, internet companies and government institutions.
Officials said the partnership reflects Pakistan’s broader push to strengthen digital infrastructure and improve nationwide connectivity.
