Iran welcomes Pakistan’s vote against UN resolution

ISLAMABAD: Iran has welcomed Pakistan’s decision to vote against a resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council, describing Islamabad’s stance as principled and independent, Pakistan’s foreign office said on Saturday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, during which the Iranian side conveyed appreciation for Pakistan’s position at the UN forum in Geneva.

According to the foreign office, Araghchi thanked Pakistan for opposing the resolution that sought to expand international monitoring of Iran following recent internal unrest. He also expressed gratitude to Pakistan’s leadership, government and people for what he termed a bold diplomatic stance.

The resolution was adopted despite opposition from several countries, while Tehran rejected it as politically motivated and an intrusion into its domestic affairs.

In a separate call the same day, Dar also spoke with Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, discussing regional developments following the World Economic Forum and agreeing to remain in close coordination on key international issues.

Pakistan has in recent months increased diplomatic engagement with regional partners, positioning itself as an active participant in multilateral discussions related to conflict resolution and regional stability.
