Pakistan, China set to sign multiple agriculture MoUs in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China are set to formalize multiple agreements to expand agricultural investment and technical cooperation during a high-level conference taking place in the capital on Monday, according to Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research.

The conference is expected to draw broad participation from the private sector, with officials confirming that more than 100 Chinese companies and over 150 Pakistani firms will attend the event. The gathering aims to strengthen bilateral engagement in agriculture and promote long-term collaboration between businesses and policymakers from both countries.

In a statement, the Ministry of National Food Security said the memorandums of understanding will focus on investment facilitation, technology transfer, and cooperation across key agricultural segments. These include livestock development, farm mechanization, horticulture, and value-chain enhancement.

Officials said the initiative reflects Islamabad and Beijing’s shared objective of expanding economic cooperation beyond infrastructure and energy projects into productive sectors such as agriculture and agri-based industries.

Pakistan and China have in recent years emphasized diversification under the next phase of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, with agriculture identified as a priority area for joint investment and modernization.

Organizers said discussions at the Islamabad conference will cover export development, modern farming techniques, and opportunities for linking Pakistani producers with Chinese and global markets.
