Pakistan rules out Israel recognition, links future ties to Palestinian statehood

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has ruled out the possibility of recognizing Israel under current circumstances, with Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stating that any future diplomatic relations would depend on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

In an interview with an international broadcaster, the minister said normalization with Israel is “not on the cards” for Islamabad. He explained that Pakistan’s policy is tied to the principle of Palestinian self-determination and the creation of a sovereign homeland.

Pakistan does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel and has consistently supported a two-state solution, with East Jerusalem envisaged as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

The minister said Islamabad could review its position only if Palestinians secure internationally recognized statehood and political rights. Until then, he added, there is no consideration of diplomatic recognition.

Separately, Asif also addressed regional security concerns, alleging that militant violence inside Pakistan is being fueled through cross-border networks. He said Pakistan prioritizes national security and sovereignty in its regional engagements.

Officials have repeatedly accused hostile elements of supporting attacks in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, allegations denied by India.

Pakistan maintains that peaceful regional relations depend on addressing security concerns alongside diplomatic dialogue.
