Islamabad: Pakistan has formally assumed the two-year chairmanship of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) for 2026 and 2027, succeeding Kazakhstan, officials said on Monday.
Pakistan thanked Kazakhstan for its leadership of the bloc in 2025, acknowledging its role in advancing ECO priorities during its tenure.
Speaking after the handover, Pakistan’s Ambassador Mudassir Tipu said Islamabad would work to make the organization more active and results-oriented. He described Pakistan as a founding member of ECO and said the country remains committed to strengthening regional economic cooperation.
Member states welcomed Pakistan’s assumption of the chair, expressing confidence that Islamabad’s leadership would bring renewed momentum to the platform.
Tipu said Pakistan plans to focus on enhancing collaboration among member countries and improving ECO’s effectiveness as a regional forum for trade, connectivity and development.
The Economic Cooperation Organization groups countries from South and Central Asia, the Middle East and the Caucasus, aiming to promote economic integration and sustainable growth across the region.
