Pakistan’s seafood exports climbed to $173 million during the first five months of the ongoing fiscal year, according to official trade data, underscoring the sector’s growing contribution to export earnings.
Industry sources say frozen fish, shrimp and value-added seafood products accounted for a major share of the exports, with shipments primarily destined for China, Thailand, the Middle East and European markets.
Exporters attribute the growth to improved processing standards, better cold-chain management and increased focus on value addition. Officials note that sustained investment in quality control and compliance with international food safety requirements remains critical for expanding market access.
The government has also emphasised the need to modernise fishing practices and processing infrastructure to ensure long-term growth of the seafood sector and higher export revenues.
