Indonesia, Pakistan Hold Advanced Talks on 40 JF-17 Fighter Jet Deal

ISLAMABAD: Indonesia and Pakistan are engaged in advanced discussions on a potential defence cooperation agreement that could involve the sale of more than 40 JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter jets, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The talks, which are being conducted at the defence and government levels, are focused on expanding military cooperation and strengthening long-term defence ties between the two countries, the sources said.

They added that the discussions cover aircraft procurement as well as associated training, maintenance and logistical support, though no final agreement has yet been announced.

Pakistan and Indonesia have maintained defence-to-defence engagement in recent years, including cooperation in training and defence industry exchanges. The JF-17, jointly developed by Pakistan and China, is currently in service with several air forces.

Officials have not publicly commented on the timeline for a potential agreement, and the talks remain subject to further negotiations and approvals.
