Bangladesh opens first permanent High Commission complex in Islamabad after nearly five decades

Bangladesh has formally inaugurated its first purpose-built, permanent High Commission complex in Islamabad, nearly 50 years after establishing diplomatic relations with Pakistan. The move represents a notable step in strengthening bilateral diplomatic engagement and institutional presence in the Pakistani capital.

Officials say the new compound replaces previously rented facilities and reflects Bangladesh’s long-term diplomatic commitment to Pakistan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Bangladeshi diplomats, officials, and community members, with the national flag hoisted at the new premises.

Diplomatic observers note that purpose-built missions are typically seen as symbols of stable and mature bilateral relations. The establishment of a permanent complex is expected to improve diplomatic operations, consular services, and engagement with Pakistani institutions.

The development also comes amid gradual improvements in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, with both sides exploring cooperation in trade, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.
