Iran warns of swift response after Trump threat

TEHRAN: Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that Tehran’s armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any act of aggression, following fresh warnings from US President Donald Trump.

In a statement issued in Tehran, Araghchi said Iran continues to support diplomatic efforts toward a transparent nuclear agreement that guarantees the country’s rights while preventing nuclear weapons.

He said Iran seeks a fair deal but stressed that any military action would be met with an immediate response.

Separately, Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warned that any US attack would trigger strikes on American, Israeli and allied targets. He described talk of limited military action as misleading, adding that Iran’s response would be swift and comprehensive.

The remarks came after Trump said a large US naval force, led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, was moving toward the Middle East. Trump said Washington hoped Iran would return to negotiations, but added that all options remained on the table.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have risen in recent days, with both sides exchanging sharp statements over regional security and Iran’s nuclear programme.
