ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways will begin exporting railway wagons and passenger coaches to five countries, including Chile, Argentina, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi said on Tuesday.
Speaking to local media in Islamabad, Abbasi said Pakistan Railways is entering international markets as part of a broader strategy to diversify revenue streams and promote locally manufactured rolling stock abroad.
He said ambassadors from the five countries will be briefed this week at the Ministry of Railways, where officials will present technical specifications, quality standards and pricing details of Pakistani-built coaches and wagons.
Abbasi said Pakistan Railways recorded revenue of Rs10 billion in December, describing it as a monthly record achieved through improved passenger services and expanded freight operations.
He added that private-sector partners have been brought into freight services, with commodities such as containers, coal and phosphate now being transported through rail.
The minister said Pakistan aims to offer competitively priced rolling stock while maintaining quality benchmarks, positioning the country as a cost-effective supplier in regional and international rail markets.
Officials said the export initiative aligns with broader government efforts to increase industrial exports and strengthen Pakistan’s manufacturing footprint overseas.
