QUETTA: Pakistan has approved the construction of concrete barriers to strengthen security around Quetta’s Red Zone, officials said following a high-level meeting in the provincial capital.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the Secretary for Communications and Works, Babar Khan, where security arrangements for sensitive government areas were reviewed.
According to officials, the first phase of the project will begin at Edhi Chowk. In the next phase, concrete barriers will be installed at all entry and exit points leading into the Red Zone.
Authorities said the measures are part of broader efforts to regulate access to key government installations and enhance overall security in the area.
Meanwhile, additional security measures have been implemented across Quetta since January 31. Several major routes, including Pishin Stop, Inscomb Road, and Spini Link Road, have been closed or converted to one-way traffic as part of the security plan.
Officials acknowledged that the restrictions have caused inconvenience to commuters but said the steps were taken in view of prevailing security requirements.
